Environment minister Aiminath Shauna has said that MDP does not want to be made an 'exclusive club' where only a few people can participate.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who arrived in Addu this Thursday evening to conclude the campaign for his presidential primary, said that MDP is an open political-minded party that can be attended by everyone.
"I dont want to make MDP an exclusive club," Shauna said in Addu dialect, referring to President Solih's rival, MDP President Mohamed Nasheed and his close aides.
Shauna, who hails from Addu, said her dreams of MDP would come true by voting for President Solih. Here are some of the reasons why she says the people should vote for President Solih:
-
President Solih knows how to manage anyone who disagree politically
-
Managed the Covid-19 situation under the president's able leadership
-
President Solih has made significant efforts to address the problems faced by the public and businesses
-
The President has ensured basic rights like water and sanitation to the people
"We do not vote swayed by emotions," Shauna said, adding that the party's members take decisions after taking everything into account.
According to Shauna, MDP’s vision of an 'island nation' can only be moved forward under MDP’s rule. She said the party's rule can only be defended by voting for President Solih.
With just a day left for the ruling party to hold its presidential primaries, the campaign has gained momentum and the internal competition within the party has intensified. Both the candidates in the primaries held a massive meeting to end their campaign in the evening.
