Russia on Wednesday praised the "long-standing friendship" with the Maldives, as the two countries marked 56 years to the establishment of formal diplomatic relations.
The Russian foreign ministry sent a message on Twitter to mark the 56th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Russia.
"Ever since our nations have been developing fruitful cooperation in various fields based on long-standing friendship and mutual understanding," the Tweet read.
However, the Maldivian foreign ministry remained silent.
Maldives voted against Russia, which remains one of the top source markets for Maldives tourist arrivals, in the first vote at the UN General Assembly following Russian's invasion of Ukraine in February. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih defended the vote at the time, while the US thanked the Maldives for its stand.
However, the Maldives abstained in a second vote at the UN General Assembly on the Russia-Ukraine war.
