Gasim contests to defend JP leader post; wife for deputy
Apart from Nahula, many others have applied for the position.

Jumhooree Party (JP) founder Gasim Ibrahim has filed his nomination for another term as the leader of JP, with his wife, transport minister Aishath Nahula also in the race for the post of deputy leader.
Party spokesman Ali Solih has confirmed that Gasim and Nahula are contesting for the two posts to be elected in the party's National Assembly to be held on February 24.
Gasim, who founded the Jumhooree Party, is the only leader in the party's life so far. Only Gasim has so far applied for the post, which is elected for a five-year term.
Nahula, who became transport minister in the current government in a Jumhooree Party slot, is contesting for the party's election post for the first time. As a government minister Nahula is already a part of the party's council. Nahula, who joined politics after Gasim was jailed during the previous government, has been leading the party's activities since then.
