Ameer explains inflation calculation to MP Ibrahim Rasheed

Maafannu Central MP Ibrahim Rasheed has requested fnance minister Ibrahim Ameer to explain how the inflation rate is calculated in the Maldives.
MP Ibrahim Rasheed asked the minister for a written response:

To clarify how inflation is being calculated now

To clarify the burden given to oil products to calculate the Consumer Price Index (CPI)
In a written reply to the member's questions, the minister said the National Bureau of Statistics (MBS) calculates the inflation levels in the country.
The minister's reply said:

The current CPI is an index of prices of goods and services selected on the basis of household expenditure in the HouseHold Income and Expenditure Survey 2016

Once a month to prepare CPI, MBS takes prices amounting more than MVR 9,500 from four islands in Male and atolls

The burden on crude oil production in CPI is 0.57%
In his reply, the minister noted that MBS prepares and publishes the CPI reports of Male, atolls and the entire country once a month.
