The main opposition PPM on Saturday launched its campaign for the by-election to the Guraidhoo parliamentary constituency.
Party candidate Hussain Riza and other senior party leaders arrived in K. Gulhi Saturday morning to kick-start the campaign. In the island, they went door-to-door, listened to the grievances of the people and sought support.
Party spokesperson Heena Waleed told Atoll Times on Saturday that the leadership will visit all the three islands in the constituency the same day.
"The campaign is going on very quickly. I wish Riza would win from the party this time as well," Heena said.
Hussain Riza, who is contesting the April 15 by-election, is the younger brother of Ibrahim Riza, who has served as an MP from the constituency for the past three terms.
Here are some of the top opposition leaders who participated in the Saturday campaign:
-
Vice-President and MP from Th. Guraidhoo constituency Ghassan Maumoon
-
Party vice-president and Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam
-
PNC Vice President and Hulhumale Council Member Ibrahim Shujau
Three parties are contesting the election along with the PPM. On Wednesday, the Election Commission finalised the names of its candidates, making it the first party to launch its campaign.
