PPM, PNC to contest parliamentary elections together

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Peoples’ National Congress (PNC) have decided to contest together in next year's parliamentary elections.
This was decided at the PPM Senate meeting held on Saturday evening. The two parties approved this decision by a majority in the senate.
The PPM and PNC have been contesting elections together since the formation of the PNC. In the last presidential election, President Mohamed Muizzu contested on the PNC ticket as a coalition candidate of the two parties.
While PPM decided to work with the PNC in the upcoming parliamentary elections, the party’s former former President Abdulla Yameen had left the party on Thursday to form a new party.
According to his senior lawyer Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Yameen decided to leave the party because the party's top brass did not want the party's activities to take place and they did not want his consultation and advice anymore.
