President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that the aim of the parliamentary elections to be held early next year is to win a super majority with PPM-PNC and its allies.
In a talk show broadcast on Sangu TV on Thursday evening, the President-elect spoke a lot about how he will shape the work of the new government. He said the role of the Parliament is very important to fulfil the promises and works of the government and the PPM-PNC members should be in parliament to decide the affairs of the new government.
"Then things will move forward at a faster pace. My aim is to get as many PPM-PNC candidates elected to parliament as possible," Muizzu said.
According to him:
-
The aim is to get two-thirds of the parliament or a super majority for the PPM-PNC
-
He wants their representative parliament members to be accepted by the people and educated
Muizzu said:
-
He wants to see an increase in the number of women MPs in parliament
-
He wants to have at least one-third of the number of women members
"This is not in the law but I want it. I will also try to get women to contest the party primary. They should be given that courage," he said.
The current 19th parliament began with a super majority of the ruling MDP. The MDP has lost its super majority after 13 of its 67 members defected, but it still has a majority in parliament.
There are currently eight PPM-PNC MPs in Parliament.
