Alliance with PPM also possible, Maumoon says
Gayoom who founded PPM and served as its president left the party in 2016 amid disagreements with his younger half-brother, then President Abdulla Yameen.
An alliance between Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) and the opposition PPM in the upcoming presidential election is also a possibility, MRM founder Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said Monday.
Replying to a question from Atoll Times before meeting Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Gasim Ibrahim at the Maumoon Foundation office in capital Male, Gayoom said that an alliance with PPM was also a possibility.
"Anything can happen," the former president said.
"Everything is discussed at the right time and a decision will be taken. I can't tell you right now... There's room for everything."
Gayoom who founded PPM and served as its president left the party in 2016 amid disagreements during the presidency of his younger half-brother, then President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
Yameen took control of the party by filing the case in court.
Gayoom, whose MRM is currently part of the ruling coalition, also met with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday. The MRM, however, is yet to decide on the course of action for the September 9 elections.
