Criminal Court on Monday released two of the five suspects arrested on Sunday in connection with a case of alleged concealment of a man who is wanted in connection with the recent spate of gang violence linked crimes in Male.

Ibrahim Faih Nizam, Rahdhebaige/S. Maradhoo Feydhoo, is wanted for allegedly stabbing a man with a sharp object.

Five persons were arrested on Sunday night on the charge that the police had not been able to trace him for over a month as some people were hiding him to prevent his arrest.

Police said on Monday that two persons were released after they were produced before the court.

According to the court:

  • Investigation reports and video snapshots submitted by the police as evidence showed that there was not enough evidence to keep them in custody

  • Video snapshots did not show them with Faih

While two of the five accused were released, the court remanded the other three to 15-day police custody.

The police first announced the search for Faih on February 15. The police had sought the help of the public to trace him on March 15 as he could not be found. The police had earlier announced the search for Faih:

  • Faih, 25, is wanted by the Serious and Organised Crime Department of the city police in connection with a gang and assault with sharp-edged weapons

  • If anyone among the public have any information about Faih, the police requests to please contact the Serious and Organised Crime Department of the Police on 9911099
