Criminal Court on Wednesday remanded Ibrahim Faih Nizam, who surrendered to the police more than a month after having been on the run. He was wanted by the police in connection with a series of gang fights in Male, and he has been remanded to 30-days in police custody.

The police had announced a search for him on February 15 in connection with the violent crimes that had seen a spike since the new year. He surrendered himself to the police on Tuesday evening after raids were conducted at several places in the city on Tuesday to locate him.

In a message sent to the media this evening, the police said that Faih was produced before a local court on Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody for 30 days.

Police did not disclose further details of the investigation.

When Faih surrendered himself to the police after fleeing, five persons suspected to have been hiding him had also been arrested.

Two of the five accused were acquitted by the court. The other three have been remanded in police custody for 15 days.
