MVR 55m Addu Islamic Centre project launched

Construction of the largest Islamic centre in the country, to be built in the southernmost Addu city, was contracted on Friday,
To be built at a cost of MVR 55.5 million by the government, 1,500 people can offer prayers in the mosque of the centre. The multi-purpose halls and seminar rooms being set up there are also being constructed to cater to a large number of people.
At a ceremony held at Addu City Council Friday evening, the construction of the Islamic Centre was awarded to Fido Private Limited. The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Dr Ahmed Zahir Ali.
The project, which was supposed to start in a month's time, has been awarded and will be completed within 15 months.
The signing ceremony was attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem and officials of Addu.
In addition to the prayer section, the Islamic Centre will also offer:

Two seminar rooms

Four classrooms

An Islamic library

Administrative section and a pantry
