Isdhoo MP Ali Hameed on Monday quit jumhooree party (JP) and signed to the main ruling MDP.
MDP officials said Hameed signed to the party at a meeting held at the presidential residence of Muleeage.

With the signing of Hameed, MDP’s strength in the 87-member parliament has risen to 67.
While Hameed had quit JP, the party had already decided to contest the presidential election separately. JP's presidential ticket has been confirmed by party leader Gasim Ibrahim. With this, a section of JP members holding government posts are quitting the party.
