Work on the pillars of the Thilamale Bridge, also known as the Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP), is almost complete and work on the bridge deck has already begun, the project office said Thursday.
Mohamed Jinan, manager of the bridge project, said that the casting of the superstructure or deck of the bridge installed on Male pillars has already begun at the Male site. Jinan said work on the portions to be placed in the sea have started at Gulhifalhu yard.
"We are combining these two works with the work of decks and pillars. So it's just another step forward," Jinan said.
Once the decks are finished, they will be brought and placed on the top of the pillars.
Jinan said the piling work on two pillars installed in the sea from Male end is currently underway. He also said that work is underway on six pillars installed in the sea from Villimale end.
Jinan further said:
-
Work is underway on a temporary wall to install pillars in Villimale area
-
Land reclamation from Villimale has begun
-
Work has begun on the pillars installed on the ground in Gulhifalhu
"We are still looking at it as per the same schedule," Jinan said.
A total of 50 pillars will be installed at different points from Male to Villimale and Gulhifalhu in segment A, which is expected to be completed by December.
