Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) on Tuesday denied reports that it is seeking additional loans for the finishing work of flats being constructed under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme underway in Hulhumale Phase II.

According to a report published by online newspaper Dhiyares on Tuesday, the FDC has held discussions with various banks in Maldives to raise funds for the finishing work of 4,000 housing units under construction in Hulhumale Phase II.

In a statement, the FDC said it did not need to take any additional loans to complete the finishing works and that the company was not negotiating with any bank for additional loans.

The FDC added:

  • Two housing projects undertaken by the corporation include finishing works; finishing work of all units will be completed

  • The existing loan covers finishing works

The FDC and the housing ministry have assured that 4,000 housing units contracted to two Indian companies will be completed by 2024. People will start living in some towers by August, the government said.

The 4,000 flats are funded through an Indian loan:

  • India's JMC Projects has been awarded 2,000 units at a cost of USD 137 million

  • India's NBCC has been awarded USD 130 million to build the remaining 2,000 units

  • These units will be developed as 17 or 18-storey towers

  • 32 towers to be constructed; each tower will have 128 apartments
