Pres security chief cleared of negligence over motorcade mishap
MNDF's statement comes a day after it was revealed Abdulla had been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
Brigadier General Abdulla Ibrahim, the head of the president's security unit, has been cleared of negligence after an enquiry into the security failure involving President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's motorcade, MNDF said Wednesday.
Several senior military personnel of the president's security unit, including the president's security chief Abdulla, were removed from their duties in March after the president's motorcade entered an opposition protest in front of the PPM office.
"On examination of the matter, it is concluded that no negligence on the part of the commanding officer [of Abdulla Rasheed] has been found," MNDF said in a statement.
MNDF added:
-
Abdulla, who was then a colonel, was removed from his duties as per the procedure followed
-
Action against Abdulla was not taken under the clause of suspension in the rules
-
Temporary removal from duties is done in order to ensure a free and fair enquiry
