Kulhudhuffushi Airport is all set to start night flights by installing runway lights to allow planes to land at night.

The Regional Airports Company (RACL), which operates Kulhudhuffushi Airport, said in a press release on Thursday that the installation of the night landing system at Kulhudhuffushi Airport has been completed. They added that the test flight to land the plane at night was successfully conducted on Thursday night as well.

Services at Kulhudhuffushi Airport will change to 24-hours after the nighttime flights commence, RCAL said. He added that this would solve the problems faced by the residents of Kulhudhuffushi and nearby islands and facilitate night air-travel.

RACL further said that with the launch of the service:

  • In case of emergencies, the difficulties in airlifting patients at night will come to an end

  • Businesses, guesthouses and resorts will also get additional benefits

With the provision of night flights commencing at Kulhudhuffushi Airport, RACL's night landing facilities are now being provided at a total of 4 airports. In addition to Kulhudhuffushi, flights are being operated at Hanimaadhoo International Airport, Faresmathoda Airport and Fuvahmulah Airport at nighttime.

In the next month, the company is also planning to start night services at RACL-run Hoarafushi airport and Maavarulu airport as well.
