The search operation launched by the police to recover a large quantity of drugs found buried at sea is still underway, according to sources.

As part of the operation, the police recovered a large quantity of drugs from the sea off the coast of Filitheyo resort in Faafu atoll on Thursday. Apart from the recovery of the drug, the police are yet to reveal any details.

It has been four days since the drug was discovered near Filitheyo, but the operation is still not being called off due to the presence of more drugs under the sea.

"A lot of drugs have been recovered. The total amount will be disclosed only after the operation is completed," said a police source familiar with the matter.

The operation was launched following a tip-off.

In a message to the media, the police said on Monday that no arrests have been made so far in the case.

In the past, the police have recovered a large quantity of drugs buried at sea. Usually, such drugs are stored in the Maldives as a transit point before their distribution to both locally and abroad.
