Maldives invites 15 countries to observe pres election

Habeeb said in the tweet that the commission had sent the invitation to election authorities in 15 countries last week.

The Elections Commission has invited 15 countries to observe the September 9 presidential election.

Vice president andsSpokesman of the Commission Ismail Habeeb disclosed the list of countries in a tweet on Saturday. 

Habeeb said in the tweet that the commission had sent the invitation to election authorities in 15 countries last week.

The countries include:

  • 2-

    Philippines

  • 3-

    Indonesia

  • 4-

    Thailand

  • 5-

    South Korea

  • 6-

    South Africa

  • 7-

    Kyrgyzstan

  • 8-

    Honduras

  • 9-

    Sri Lanka

  • 10-

    Bosnia

  • 11-

    Australia

  • 12-

    Jordan

  • 13-

    Canada

  • 14-

    Japan

  • 15-

    Nepal

Filing of nominations will begin on July 23 and elections will be held on September 9. If the election goes to a runoff, a second round will be held on September 30.

Polling will be held in eight countries, but only if at least 150 people register to vote in that country.

So far, four political parties have finalised their candidates and two have expressed interest in contesting as independents.
