Government on Thursday signed an agreement with UNDP to facilitate bulk procurement of medicine to the Maldives through UNDP’s global health procurement services.
Finance minister Ibrahim Ameer and UNDP resident representative Enrico Gaveglia signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the finance ministry.
Finance ministry said the project aims to procure and supply quality medicine and pharmaceuticals to the state-owned STO and build capacity within the public health sector to achieve the broader target of access to healthcare for all in a sustainable manner.
"The signed agreement is a symbol of commitment to the continuity of the Aasandha scheme and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. This is a robust example of how GoM is working with development partners to address the issues in public healthcare in the Maldives," a tweet by the ministry read.
There are many complaints that high-end medicines produced by developed countries are not available in the Maldives. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has recently said that the issue needs to be addressed.
