Former national cricket team coach Mohammad Asif Khan has been convicted of seven counts of sexual offences and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Criminal Court in Maldives.
The South African national was arrested on October 5, 2019, on charges of sexually assaulting minors as well as women who were in his training. On December 5, 2019, he was charged with nine counts of sexual offences:

Three counts of sexual abuse of a child by a person in a trustworthy position

Three counts of sexual abuse

Two counts of causing an immoral situation through an action that has no reasonable motive
In its verdict on Thursday, the court had found him guilty of seven out of the nine charges against him. He was sentenced to 53 years, two months and two days in prison for the offences.
