Safaath to represent Asian civil society in Commonwealth
Safaath, who is the communications strategist at the foreign ministry, is the founder and president of an NGO called Women and Democracy.

Safaath Ahmed has been named among the Civil Society Advisory Governors elected to represent civil society organisations in the Commonwealth.
Safaath, who was appointed Advisory Governor advocating on behalf of civil society in the Asian region for the next two years, said in a tweet that she would work to raise the concerns and voice of civil society in the region.
She said she would work in the fields of democracy, equality, human rights and sustainable development.
Five advisory governors, including Safaath, have been appointed to represent civil society in different parts of the Commonwealth. They are from Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and the Pacific.
According to the Commonwealth Foundation, Safaath, who is committed to women's rights, has made outstanding contributions to civil society.

Foreign minister Abdulla Shahid welcomed the appointment of Safaath as a Commonwealth's Civil Society Advisory Governor. Shahid tweeted that he was confident that Safaath would represent Maldives and the Asian region very well in her new capacity.
