Adaalath Party has changed its goal from reforming the nation to establishing an Islamic system of governance, its president Imran Abdulla said on Friday.
The home minister said the key aspect to continue the efforts of the Adaalath Party to achieve its goal is for the religious scholars to remain united and steadfast. Adaalath stands firmly behind those scholars, he said.
“... When it is done that way, our country will change for the better,” Imran, whose religious conservative party has decided to renew its coalition agreement with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's MDP for a second term, said.
Noting that Adaalath's role in the upcoming presidential election is very important, Imran said the work will succeed only if the party's members and close associates are informed of the party's goal.
“Therefore, it is very important that we all participate in this work together,” he said.
Adaalath is the only party from the exiting ruling coalition to back President Solih's re-election bid.
Jumhooree Party (JP), which has worked with Adhaalath in all previous presidential elections, has fielded its leader Gasim Ibrahim as a separate presidential candidate, while former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's MRM has not yet decided on the election.
