India's Afcons has denied that an employee at its Gulhifalhu site, used for the Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP), died due to inadequate medical treatment and that his fellow workers were on a strike following the death.
Reporters surfaced on social media on Saturday that the employee had been sick for many days and was being treated only with Panadol. On Friday, he fell down while at work, causing discontent among other employees, according to some on social media.
The Thilamale Bridge project manager Mohammed Jinan told Atoll Times that the employee died of a heart attack on Friday.
"He suffered a heart attack yesterday and was rushed to Tree Top Hospital right away. He died there," Jinan said.
According to him:
-
The employee has been on leave for three days due to illness
-
The claim that adequate healthcare is not provided is false
-
No work was carried out at the site on Friday and Saturday due to the death
"There is no unrest or strike here. They are lies," he said.
