Afcons staff missing in fire confirmed matched to recovered body

Police said that it has been confirmed that the body recovered from the spot is that of the missing person.

It has been confirmed that the body recovered from the Gulhifalhu site, where workers of India's Afcons who are building the Thilamale bridge, was the body of the company's employee who went missing after the fire at the site in December.

After a fire broke out in Gulhifalhu on December 15, the torso of a human body was found while cleaning the site of the fire. The part of the body was found through the search for an employee that had gone missing in the fire incident.

In a message to the media on Thursday, the police said that it has been confirmed that the body recovered from the spot is that of the missing person. The body had been sent to India this week to be handed over to the family.

  • While 24 suffered minor injuries, four needed surgery

Many were injured when they jumped to the ground from the second floor of the building to escape the fire. Others were also affected by getting crushed in the chaos.
