Parliament's Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Rasheed resigned from MDP on Wednesday.
Rasheed announced his resignation in a letter he sent to MDP chairperson Fayyaz Ismail. The letter did not explain why he left the party.

Rasheed has emerged as a supporter of the party's former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Thirteen MDP members have already left the party and are working to form a new political party called The Democrats.
