Former MDP president Mohammed Nasheed's breakaway The Democrats party have launched the formulation of their manifesto for the upcoming presidential election.
The Democrats founder and Henveiru West MP Hassan Latheef led the meeting at the Fuvahmulah City Council Hall on Thursday evening.
About 50 people attended the meeting and proposed what they wanted to include in the manifesto. Hassan Latheef tweeted on Thursday evening thanking the participants for their "rich ideas"
“Your open vision of Fuvahmulah is undoubtedly the philosophy of The Democrats,” he said.
The Democrats have already said they will field a candidate for the September 9 presidential election.
The Democrats team worked under the name of Fikuregge Dhirun faction within the MDP and began working on a manifesto with the JP. However, Nasheed's proposals to change the system of governance to parliamentary system have not received the support of JP leader Gasim Ibrahim.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won the Fuvahmulah constituency by a narrow margin in the MDP presidential primary last January. The primary election results:
