Indian ambassador meets Elections Commission
Ballot boxes will be placed in eight countries outside Maldives and 15 countries have been invited to observe the election.

Indian High Commissioner to Maldives Munu Mahawar met the Elections Commission(EC) on Sunday.
In a tweet, the Elections Commission said that Munu Mahawar paid the commission a visit at its office.
According to the commission's tweet, the meeting was held as part of its ongoing discussions on observing the September 9 presidential election.
The commission is also holding meetings with other parties to observe the presidential election. Commonwealth representatives also met with the commissioners on Sunday.

The European Union (EU) has announced its observation mission to the Maldives.
The deadline for nominations for this year's presidential election expires on August 7, open from next Sunday. If the election goes to a runoff, it will be held on September 30.
