Supreme Court has rejected an appeal filed by the President's Office seeking to stop the implementation of an order by the Information Commissioner to disclose the expenses of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's trip to the United States.
The president traveled to New York in 2021 to address the 76th UN General Assembly session, which was presided over by Maldivian foreign minister Abdulla Shahid. The expenses of the trip, in which he was accompanied by several senior government officials, were rumoured to be high.
After that:
-
The Information Commissioner asked the President's Office to disclose the receipts of the visit
-
The High Court upheld the directive
-
The Attorney General's (AG) office appealed the High Court ruling at the Supreme Court on July 9
The Supreme Court registry shows that the court decided not to accept the case on Sunday. According to the registrar's decision, the case was dismissed because the state did not explain why the High Court's decision was wrong.
