Supreme Court upholds privacy of BML top officials’ salaries

The Supreme Court ruled that the information requested by Aiman is a trade secret.

The Supreme Court on Sunday ruled that the salaries of the board members and senior employees of the public Bank of Maldives (BML) are personal information and should not be disclosed.

Right to Information (RTI) activist Aiman Latheef has filed a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (iCOM) regarding the salaries of BML directors and senior employees. Earlier, when applied to BML for the information, the bank refused to provide it.

The High Court ruled that iCOM was right.

The Supreme Court on Sunday held a hearing to decide the case.

  • It is third party personal information and should not be released

The ruling of Justice Husnu Al Suood was upheld by Justices Ali Rasheed Hussain and Dr Mohamed Ibrahim supported.
