Police said on Thursday that they have launched a disciplinary enquiry against a policeman who shoved a journalist during the arrest of PPM-PNC leadership members from the Republic Square.
Some media outlets broadcast live when five opposition leaders, including some MPs and vice-presidents of the parties, sat at the Republic Square on Thursday.
While the police tried to arrest the politicians, they also attempted breaking up the crowd of journalists gathered there. A video has been circulating on social media showing the Channel 13 cameraman falling along with another journalist after a policeman shoved him.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Yoonus Sobah told Atoll Times that the video came to the attention of the police and they are now investigating the matter. The police officer has been temporarily removed from his duties, he said.
The police's actions to keep the media away have also drawn criticism on social media.

Police also informed the parliament of the arrest. According to the law, after the arrest of a parliamentarian, the parliament must be notified.
The rest include Hulhumale councillor Ibrahim Shujau and Henveiru West councillor Ahmed Aifan.
The Republic Square is in the green zone where activities such as demonstrations are prohibited.
