Kulhudhuffushi North MP Yasir Abdul Latheef, along with Kulhudhuffushi Mayor Mohamed Athif and the majority members of the city council, has left The Democrats and re-joined the ruling MDP on Tuesday.

Yasir, who left the MDP in January and signed up to The Democrats, along with the city's mayor and council members re-joined MDP in the presence of President Solih on Tuesday evening.

After the signing, they discussed the issues of Kulhudhuffushi with President Solih and foreign minister Abdulla Shahid.

It is unclear why Yasir, Kulhudhuffushi mayor and many council members re-joined MDP. They could not be reached for comment.

Yasir left the MDP and joined The Democrats after criticising the government. In particular, his biggest problem was that the development projects in Kulhudhuffushi have not progressed at the desired pace during the past five years.
