"However, the law says this is part of Male. This is not the property of Urbanco. This is the property of the people of Male”.

Hulhumale is the property of the people of Male and the management of the satellite town will be transferred from the responsibility of the government-owned Urbanco to the Male City Council, PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz pledhed on Sunday.
Muizz, who currently serves as the mayor of Male, made the promise while addressing a rally at the Hiyaa Flat area on Sunday evening to launch his presidential manifesto.
“I will hopefully hand over all municipal services to the city council with the budget and resources,” said Muizz, who has already expressed concern about the management of Hulhumale being under the control of a government company.
Speaking at the rally held in Hulhumale Phase II, which was developed by the former President Abdulla Yameen's government, Muizz said:
-
Urbanco is not running the neighbourhood the way residents want
-
Hulhumale is legally part of Male, but the neighbourhood is run by a company illegally
"The company does not care about the people. The company does not care about providing municipal services. They are doing things for the people as a company wants, on a commercial basis," he said.
"However, the law says this is part of Male. This is not the property of Urbanco. This is the property of the people of Male”.
Muizz added:
-
After the municipal services of Hulhumale are brought under the control of the council, the sale or lease of land cannot be carried out without the consent of the council
-
It will be done in consultation with the council, in an agreed manner and as required by law
"We will rule in line with the law. We will execute the rule of law, justice and fairness. So the rights of the people of Male should be protected and provided. And I will”.
During the 2021 council elections, the ruling MDP also announced that it would hand over the municipal affairs of Hulhumale to the city council. However, with the MDP losing the council majority in the election, it has not been put into practice.
