
EC says enough election officials secured
EC Vice-President Ismail Habeeb told Atoll Times on Wednesday that more than 5,000 people have applied to act as officials.

Elections Commission (EC) said on Wednesday that it has secured the number of officials required for the upcoming presidential election.
The Election Commission has previously expressed concerns over the lack of interest from the people to act as officials in the September 9 elections.

EC Vice-President Ismail Habeeb told Atoll Times on Wednesday that more than 5,000 people have applied to act as officials. Although some applicants cannot participate in the ongoing training, the commission has backup applicants to fill in as well, he added.
"They will be able to act as officials only after training. Some of them will not be able to come but there will be the required number of officials," Habeeb said.
He said the commission is currently looking for reserve officers.
