President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on Tuesday that there are concerns over the high down payment to be paid for the Vinares flats and that efforts will be made to address them.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Galolhu ward in Male for the second round of the presidential election on September 30, the president said he hears concerns about the down payment and high rent of Vinares flats when he went door-to-door in the city.
“We will hopefully make changes to it soon and I will bring a positive change to the rent with a lower down payment,” he said.
He said he would announce the changes soon.
In addition, complaints were received about the high down payment of MPL flats. The president said that the rent of the flats will be reduced and the down payment structure will be improved.
MPL has already reduced the rent of flats built for sale to its employees and extended the rent payment period to 25 years.
The president said there are other things promised under the government's housing policy, such as flats for customs, corrections and university employees.
