Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer said on Friday that the information of all foreign loans taken by the Maldivian government have been shared with the relevant authorities.
Ameer said this after opposition PPM-PNC presidential candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz said at a campaign rally on Thursday evening that information such as interest rates on foreign loans was kept secret in the current government and that was not the way to go about it.
Ameer said the government has not kept any loan information secret, reposting a report in X.
"The information on any foreign loans is not kept secret. As per the law, it is already shared with the parliament and the MMA. Other information is on the ministry website," he said.
Ameer denied Muizz's allegations and said the previous government kept the reports sent by the Finance Ministry to parliament secret.
"It is not good to talk about those who hid the debt and financial situation reports sent to parliament from 2013 to 2018," he said.
At Thursday evening’s campaign rally, Muizz alleged that the Governor was not aware of the loans taken by the government.
Muizz also reiterated the opposition's claim that some schools are being mortgaged to take loans. However, the government has previously denied the allegations.
