ACC orders MVR 20m recovery in 75 graft cases linked to Fenaka

The ACC says that some of the cases have been investigated and the amount of money ordered to be recovered amounts to MVR 20.5 million.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said on Tuesday that it has ordered the recovery of more than MVR 20 million from 75 cases involving the Fenaka Corporation.

The ACC on Tuesday issued a statement on the corruption cases being investigated involving the state-owned utilities company.

Regarding the 75 cases of Fenaka being investigated by the ACC, the statement said that so far some of the cases have been investigated and the amount of money ordered to be recovered amounts to MVR 20.5 million. However, the commission did not say how much money it has received yet.

ACC's investigations cover: 

  • Cases relating to company officials abusing their power or using undue influence to obtain illegal profits

  • Allegations of employment of people against the regulations

  • Cases of violation of the company's procurement rules and allegations of disbursement of funds in violation of the regulations established by the company regarding the disbursement of funds

The commission has also asked Fenaka to rectify 92 issues identified in various cases. They include:

  • 48 cases: related to the operation of the company

  • 24 cases: related to company policies

  • 6 cases: related to the recovery of money lost to the company due to corrupt practices

  • 6 cases: to be investigated by the company

"In addition, the commission has prepared a report on the extent of corruption in the running of the Fenaka Corporation, measures to be taken to reduce the corruption and challenges to investigation. The report has been brought to the attention of the President's Office and the State-Owned Enterprises Committee of the parliament," the statement concluded.
