President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced on Saturday that his first 100 days will include shifting municipal services of Hulhumale under the control of the Male City Council.
Muizzu, who currently serves as the mayor of Male, said he would fulfil his electoral pledge to transfer municipal services of Hulhumale to the city council within 100 days, at a rally held at Hulhumale central park.
“As I pledged during the campaign, the municipal services in Hulhumale should be provided by the Male City Council. I will hand over the municipal services of both phases of Hulhumale to the council as one of the first things to be done in the first 100 days," he said.
Muizzu also detailed some of the municipal services that will be brought under the council. These include:
-
Cleaning of Hulhumale streets
-
Harbour and street lighting
-
All administrative services described in the Decentralisation Act and not yet assigned to the council
"Then the people will be able to bring about the change they want to see with the council, like the city. [With that,] it will be easier for the people," he said.
Muizzu said the next biggest problem in Hulhumale is parking. The council decided to establish parking buildings in Hulhumale to solve the problem, but it has not been done due to lack of cooperation from the government, he said.
“We will hopefully solve the parking [problem] by constructing the appropriate buildings in a couple of areas, [which] will include two phases,” he said.
