Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem joined the incoming ruling People's National Congress (PNC) on Sunday.
Naseem was elected as an independent MP in the 2019 parliamentary election and has remained an independent.
He handed over his application form to PNC Chairman Abdul Raheem Abdulla on Sunday.
Naseem joined the PNC amid rumours that several MPs are going to join the party. After the September presidential election, President-elect Dr Mohamed Muizzu also said he would work to strengthen the party.
After the presidential election, Muizzu was elected the party's president as well, with the then party president Abdul Raheem Abdulla assuming the party's chairpersonship.
