JSC approves Shakeel's retirement due to illness
Shakeel, who was the Chief Justice of the Criminal Court, sentenced former President Abdullah Yameen to 11 years in jail last December in the V.Aarah case.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday decided to accept the retirement of High Court Judge Ahmed Shakeel.
According to the JSC, Shakeel had applied for retirement as he is suffering from Sick Sinus Syndrome, a type of heart rhythm disorder. The JSC unanimously decided to accept Shakeel's motion at a meeting held on Wednesday.

Under the Judiciary Act, Shakeel has submitted his request to retire from the judiciary for health reasons along with a specialist doctor's certificate as per the rules

He has had artificial pacemakers installed n his heart twice due to his illness

The Commission relied on the doctor's recommendations regarding Shakeel's current difficulties
Retirement of judges for health reasons is a policy of the JSC as per the law and regulations. Four judges have retired so far this year for health reasons.
According to the recently enacted Judges' Retirement Rules, judges who retire with honor will receive allowances.
