Indian maid accused of beating child blames landlord's mistreatment

Sandeep Kor, 22, of India, was arrested on 26th last month.

The Criminal Court on Thursday remanded an Indian maid in custody for 15 days after she admitted in court that she touched the child but blamed the owners of the house where she worked.

Sandeep Kor, 22, of India, was arrested on 26th last month. The woman's initial 15-day remand expired and she was produced before the court on Thursday.

According to Sandeep Kor's remand order, she admitted in court that she touched the child. However, she blamed the woman and the man living in the house. They are believed to be the child's parents, although the order does not say who they are.

As such, she told the court:

  • She was abused by the woman and the man in the house

  • She was not paid the salaries she was owed

  • She was forced to work even when she was sick

  • She was not given proper meals 

Sandeep Kor told the court that she could not afford to hire a lawyer as she did not have the money.

She is charged with physical assault on a child. The court has been presented with evidence to the extent that remand is warranted These include:

  • Statements of the complainant

  • The child's mother's statement and the police statement

  • Video clip

Judge Hussein Faiz Rashad decided to order her to remain in custody for another 15 days.

A video of Sandeep Kor abusing the child has been circulated on social media.
