A man has been sentenced to 54 years in prison for the sexual assault of a minor, following a case investigated by the Maldives Police Service.
According to police, the offence involved the abuse of a girl who had been in a position of trust with the perpetrator. He was arrested on 3 September 2022 in connection with the case.
The investigation was completed on 18 October 2022 and forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.
The individual, now 51 years old, has remained in custody since his arrest. The Hulhumale Court has sentenced him to 54 years’ imprisonment. With time already served taken into account, the man will serve 51 more years in prison, the Maldives Police Service said.
