Maldives and Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to conduct research on upgrading the seawall in Male.
The studies are being conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). At a ceremony held at the planning ministry, the MoU was signed by:

JICA preparatory survey team leader Hideaki Matsumoto
Under the MoU, studies will also be conducted on upgrading the stormwater drainage system in the capital city.
However, the planning ministry did not disclose any further details on the date on which the studies will begin.
