9 more deputy ministers appointed

With the deputies appointed Wednesday, 72 people have been appointed as deputy ministers to 21 ministries so far.

President Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday appointed additional nine deputy ministers to ministries, pushing the total number of deputy ministers so far to 70.

The new appointments are:

    Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs – Ali Janah

  • 2-

    Deputy Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works – Mohamed Arif

  • 3-

    Deputy Minister of Homeland Security and Technology - Mariyam Shifana Ali Saleem

  • 4-

    Deputy Minister of Finance - Hassan Miras

  • 5-

    Deputy Minister of Education - Aminath Muna

  • 6-

    Deputy Minister of Tourism - Ahmed Maais

  • 7-

    Deputy Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development – Ibrahim Aleem

  • 8-

    Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare – Fathimath Zuhura

  • 9-

    Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts – Abdulla Mahzoom Majid

With the deputies appointed Wednesday, 72 people have been appointed as deputy ministers to 21 ministries so far. They include:

  • On November 28: 26

  • On November 29: 20

  • On November 30: 17

On average, there will be three deputies for each ministry. With a total of seven deputies, the largest number of deputies has been appointed to homeland security and technology ministry, which has the largest mandate.

In addition to the ministries, the President's Office already has seven deputies.

The president has said during his campaign and transitional phase that he will cap the total number of political appointees at 700.
