A man has been arrested with drugs after the perpetrator stabbed a man in a shop during an attempted robbery in Addu, Hithadhoo.
The case was reported to police at 3:10 pm on Sunday.
"A shopkeeper was injured while trying to arrest the robber. He was released after receiving treatment at the Addu Equatorial Hospital," a police spokesman said.
Upon further information, the official said the salesman was attacked with a sharp object. A 37-year-old man was arrested in the case.
"He was arrested and searched and 18 rubber packets containing suspected drugs were recovered from him. Police are investigating the case," the official said.
Gang fights and robberies have increased in Addu recently. A special team of police from Male went to Addu to curb and stop the gang activities.
