Army chief Abdul Raheem promoted to Lieutenant General rank

Abdul Raheem is the third person in the history of the Maldivian army to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

President Mohamed Muizzu on Monday promoted chief of defence force Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef from Major General to Lieutenant General. 

At a special ceremony held at the Bandaarakoshi army barracks, President Muizzu handed over the rank medal to Abdul Raheem, while defence minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon handed over the letter of appointment.

Abdul Raheem is the third person in the history of the Maldivian army to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.

Previous recipients of the rank of Lieutenant General are 

  • Lt. Gen. (Retired) Anbari Abdul Sattar

  • Lt. Gen. (Retired) Abdulla Shamal, who was Abdul Raheem predecessor
