The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has formed a special committee to investigate the delay in court cases. With that, the commission has now begun work on it.

The Commission's Rules of Procedure have been amended on Wednesday to form a special committee to find a solution to the issue.

The amendment, which has now been published in the Government Gazette, provides for the addition of one more committee to the standing committees of the Commission.

  • Committee to identify the reasons for delays in court cases

With the amendment, the commission's permanent quarters will include a total of eight committees.

The commission's Secretary General Izmira Shiham told Atoll Times on Wednesday evening that the decision to form the committee was taken at the commission's meeting held last week.

“The main objective of the committee is to look into long-standing issues and do whatever is possible to resolve them,” Izmira said.

With the commission's decision, a three-member committee has now been formed, she said. The three members are:

  • Commission Chairman, Thulhaadhoo Constituency Member Hisan Hussain

  • Member of the Commission Ali Shareef (Judge elected from among the lower court judges)

  • Commission Member Mohammed Sameer (President's Member)

Changes in the committee are also possible, Izmira said.
