The homeland security ministry is considering making it possible to submit a manual application or paper forms for National Identity (NID) cards and passports.
Passport and ID card applications are now available online only. Payment for the service is also done through an online portal.
These services were switched online last government to facilitate access to these services from home during the pandemic. However, it was left that way at the request of many people even after the outbreak.
Homeland security minister Ali Ihsan told a news conference on Wednesday that with the change, people who are not familiar with accessing services online have been faced with difficulties.
Work has been started to resolve the issue, he said, adding that he is considering accepting paper applications submitted manually.
"We will take some steps very soon. Manual application is being considered, especially in the case of ID cards," Ihsan said.
Immigration controller Mohamed Shamman Waheed, who attended the press conference, said the change would also be considered in passport applications. He said the change was made to facilitate access to services from anywhere.
However, it has been observed that it is causing inconvenience, especially to the elderly, he said.
"Online payment has also been changed to make it easier for the public. But we will consider it," Shamman said in response to the journalist's question.
In addition, Shamman said, efforts are being made to resolve the issue of passport obtaining. In the future, passports will be issued within two days, he said.
