Aasandha cover medical check-ups kicks in

This service will be available at health centres, regional and atoll hospitals.

The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has announced that the first batch of people, those over the age of 50 will be able to get medical check-ups through Aasandha from this Monday onwards.

It was president Mohamed Muizzu's presidential promise to provide medical check-ups to Maldivians through the government's health insurance scheme, Aasandha. As per the promise, the Cabinet had on May 5 approved a provision for medical treatment from Aasandha.

A rule has been formulated to enable patients to undergo medical check-ups twice a year through Aasandha under the guidance of doctors.

Under the rule, medical check-up services will be available at government health facilities from Monday, NSPA said in a statement.

The aim is to facilitate early detection of major diseases and early treatment and improve the health of the people. In addition, the objectives include building a generation that focuses on preventing diseases via changing lifestyle by instilling a culture of staying healthy.

Starting dates of medical check-ups for different age groups under Aasandha

  • Over 50: From today (Jan. 1)

  • 49-35 years: 1 April

  • Under 19 (After review of school screening program: 1 April)

  • 34-19 years:1 July

NSPA will open registration for the medical check-up service on Monday. The service will be available at island health centres, regional and atoll hospitals.

Medical check-ups can be done at Hulhumale Hospital, IGMH and Villimale Hospital as well.

If you need a second medical check-up within a year, you can have a second check-up as per the doctor’s advice.

  • The second check-up can be done 6 months after the first check-up

  • Checkup includes blood, urine, stool tests and ECG
