71% of Male said no to govt, Solih says

Former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih has said that 71% of the people of Male have said no to the government on Saturday.

MDP candidate Adam Azim defeated government candidate Azima Shukoor in the contest for the vacant Mayoral seat on this Saturday’s elections.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Sultan Park tonight, MDP President Solih said the party had contested the mayoral election still baring the disappointment of losing the presidential election. He said the party members worked in the mayoral election during difficult and bereft times.

He thanked the people of Male for their trust in the MDP candidate and their vote.

“Adam Azim will not disappoint the people of Male. MDP will not disappoint the people of Male,” he said.

Solih said 71% of the people of Male have said no to the policies of this government.

“Less than two months after coming to power, the people of Male came out and said no to the government's policies, and not for no reason,” he said.

The current government spread lies to come to power and the lies are beginning to unravel, he said, adding that the true character of the government is beginning to be revealed.

“The day is very near when the whole country will say no to this government,” he said.

He urged the government to expedite the handover of the land given to the people of Hulhumale, Gulhifalhu and Giraavaru, if they wished to see favourable results in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"Today, he is still doing what he did to come to power. He is lying and deceiving," he said.

Azim, who won the mayoral seat on the MDP ticket, came to the post with a vision and he is coming to change the city as the people want, Solih said.
