The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has warned people to be vigilant against two companies that are charging people for Umrah without government permission.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, it has been brought to the notice of the Ministry through social media that people are taking money by announcing Umra trips and opportunities in violation of rules governing the movement of people to Umrah.

People announcing for Umrah without permission:

  • Al Mash-ar Hajj Umrah

  • Vadi Hajj and Umrah

The ministry said in a statement:

  • No company shall charge any person for Umrah unless the Ministry has granted permission to take people from Maldives; it is forbidden

  • According to the Umrah rules, Umrah permits can be allowed for two consecutive years

  • It is also illegal to charge people in advance for Umrah trips that do not fall within the Umrah permit period

"It is reminded that it is illegal to take people for Umrah without the permission required under the rules and to pay for Umrah to an unauthorised company. Anyone who acts in violation of this rule will be held responsible," the ministry said in a statement.

"The list of companies authorised to provide Umrah services has been published on the website of this ministry. Therefore, all parties are requested to pay attention to it”.

According to the list released by the ministry on December 7, 50 companies have been given permission to take people to Umrah from March this year to November next year.
